ATTENTION SCDNUG MEMBERS!
SCDNUG is starting a book review program for the members of the group! Here is how it works. If you are interested to receive a FREE book contact the program coordinator Mikhail Dikov (mdikov@scdnug.org) on one of the group meetings to request a particular title from the Apress catalog. Mikhail will contact the User Group coordinator for the publishing house of the book and request your FREE copy. Currently we work with Apress, but in the future we plan to extend the program to other publishers. In exchange you have to post a book review on Amazon’s page of the book, your blog or the blog of SCDNUG and email a link directly to the publisher and the coordinator. You get 60 days to read and review the book.
Remember a book review is not a book report. To write a book review you don’t need to read each and every word or run all the samples. You do not need to tell your reader the contents of the book. You do want to tell your reader what you thought of the contents of the book. To receive the book you have to meet some basic criteria and accept the program terms:
· You have to be a registered user of the SCDNUG. ( Name, Address, Phone Number, Employer )
· You have to attend one of the meetings of the group to be able to request or pick up a book.
· If you are not able to submit your review within 60 days, contact the program coordinator to arrange for the return of the book in its original condition.
· If you have a book for review in your possession, you have to submit your review or return the book in its original condition to be eligible to obtain another book.
· The book review should be between 1000 and 2500 characters to be eligible. Guidelines will be posted on SCDNUG’s web site in near future.
This program is a great opportunity to save on books, get the latest titles and work on your writing skills. Book reviews also add credibility to your blog and you can link your article directly to Amazon and make money! In addition if you prepare a short presentation about the book for one of the SCDNUG meetings you have the opportunity to polish your speaking skills and add your contribution to the SCDNUG’s live.
Titles available at the next meeting:
Workflow in the 2007 Microsoft Office System, David Mann
